VEHICLES DESTROYED AS CAR CARRIER CATCHES FIRE NEAR PORT MACQUARIE
A number of cars have been destroyed, while the driver of a truck was lucky to walk away uninjured after his rig burst into flames on the Pacific Highway.
Both northbound lanes of the road were closed near the Hastings River Bridge, as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
It’s understood the driver heard a loud bang, before he spotted sparks from the rear of the car carrier.
Attempts by the 35-year-old, along with passing truck drivers, to put out the flames proved unsuccessful, with four of the six cars onboard completely destroyed.
NSW Fire & Rescue, along with RFS crews from Sancrox, Lake Innes and Telegraph Point were eventually able to extinguish the fire.
