FISHERMAN WINCHED FROM ROCKS SOUTH OF CATHERINE HILL BAY

An injured fisherman has quite the story to tell, after a dramatic rescue south of Newcastle.

The 71-year-old managed to flag down a passing boat at around midday, after he broke his leg on rocks at Moonee Beach more than five hours earlier.

The skipper of the vessel alerted authorities, with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter sent to the popular fishing spot.

Paramedics, along with police, firefighters and members of the VRA worked to stabilise the man, before he was flown to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital.
