CHARGES LAID AGAINST WOMAN ACCUSED OF SALAMANDER BAY RAMPAGE

The woman accused of going on a late afternoon stabbing rampage in a quiet Port Stephens suburb has been charged.

The 26-year-old is accused of stabbing four people, including her five-year-old daughter during the ordeal at Salamander Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

Police will allege the woman was armed with a knife when she got into a car which was stopped at an intersection on Soldiers Point Road, where she stabbed the driver with a knife.

He was left with minor lacerations, while his 15-year-old daughter who was in the car escaped uninjured.

The woman was later confronted by members of the public, including a local man who was carrying a chair.

It’s further alleged she then lunged at a 44-year-old man with a knife, before entering a convenience store where she stabbed a 50-year-old man in the back.

While inside the store, she allegedly stabbed her daughter in the head, with officers eventually arresting the 26-year-old after a short struggle.

She was treated for self-inflicted stab wounds to her head, before being taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where she was charged.

The young girl was taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital for treatment, while the other victims were taken to a nearby medical clinic suffering minor injuries.

A police officer was also treated for non life threatening injuries, after he was assaulted during the arrest.

The woman will re-appear in court later today, charged with eleven offences including three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
