CIGARETTE BUTT STARTS RAGING CENTRAL COAST HOUSE FIRE

A man has been lucky to escape his home after it was engulfed by flames on the Central Coast last night.
It’s believed a cigarette butt started the Charmhaven house fire on Narara Avenue around 9:30pm.
It took more than 20 firefighters two hours to extinguish the blaze, which gutted the rear of the house.
“Cigarettes can be deadly in more ways than one,” said a Fire and rescue NSW spokesperson.
“House and grass fires can be caused by improperly extinguished or tossed cigarettes.
“Always discard and extinguish cigarettes in a container made from either metal, glass or ceramic material – like an ash tray.”
