OUTTERIDGE AND JENSEN UP TO FIFTH AT THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Lake Macquarie’s Iain Jensen and Nathan Outteridge have moved into fifth at the 49er European Championship after day two.
The Olympic gold medallists went into the event on the back of a disappointing result at the World Cup, keen to bridge the gap to New Zealand’s Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.
“Obviously no one’s taken a regatta off the Kiwis since London and every event we come into trying to win it. We haven’t been doing a great job recently. We had a bad one in Weymouth but we’ll be looking to bounce back here.”
Outteridge’s sister Haylee was a late call-up for the 49erFX skiff event.
She’s competing alongside Caitlin Elks, who lost her regular crew member Tess Lloyd to an ankle injury.
“Only had a couple of days on the water together so we’re trying to figure out how to sail together but fortunately it’s a good venue so we haven’t been limited by any conditions.”
