SWANSEA CHANNEL DREDGING TO BEGIN

Dredging will begin in the Swansea Channel in coming weeks.

Queensland company Neumann Dredging has been contracted by the state government to remove 100-thousand cubic metres of sand from the waterway.

The $2.5 million project will see the channel maintained at 60 metres wide and 3.5 metres deep to accommodate an increasing number of craft accessing Lake Macquarie.

The excess sand will be used to replenish dunes at Blacksmiths Beach.

It’s hoped the project will be completed ahead of the busy summer holiday period.
