Work will start later this week on a major upgrade of Newcastle’s coastal precinct between Nobbys and Newcastle Beach.
Shortland Esplanade will be converted to one-way traffic, to cater for a new walkway and on-road cycle path.
A viewing platform and picnic facilities will also be included, in a bid to attract more people to the area.
The $10-million project is being jointly funded by the state government and Newcastle Council.
