MORE TROUBLE FOR THE WARATAH TRAIN PROJECT

The trouble-plagued Waratah train project has hit another snag, with a carriage derailing as it was unloaded from a ship at Newcastle Port.
Downer EDI, which is fitting out the trains, says the incident happened when an axle from the last carriage fell off.
A crane lifted the damaged carriage back onto the track late this morning – it’s now at the company’s Cardiff plant.

The only correct part of this story was that the carriage left the tracks. An axle did not “fall off”, it was a low speed derailment with minimal damage. It was operator error at the port.
