The 19-year-old former Junior World Champion was beaten by a white-hot Sean Holmes today – the local rider using his intimate knowledge of Jay Bay to devastating effect.
10-point rides were the order of the day.
A mind-blowing four surfers grabbed maximum scoring waves – including crowd favourite and two-time defending event champion, Jordy Smith.
But the all the post-heat talk surrounded Aussie, Heath Joske and his throwback “soul-arch” manoeuvre which was a huge hit with the crowd.
