FLOOD FLUSH LIKE A BIG CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE

It’s said a drought on the land is also a drought for fisherman but recent heavy rains in the Region’s North West have supercharged local river systems with mud and nutrients.

A chocolate tide, surging down the Hunter River is proving to be quite a spectacle off Newcastle and for local fishermen the fresh flush brings the promise of good prawn hauls for Christmas.

But for the farmers of Sandy Hollow and Merriwa on the Goulburn River, which joins the Hunter, it means the loss of valuable top soil and a disrupted harvest.
