Quick thinking sees a stranded swimmer rescued off Byron Bay

A swimmer is lucky to be alive – after being swept one kilometre off Broken Head, south of Byron Bay this morning.

Using his smart watch to call triple zero – the Westpac Rescue helicopter winched the man in his 40s to safety.

Fortunately, he was uninjured and he was was taken to Byron Hospital for further assessment.
