LISMORE COUNCIL CALLS FOR CLUNES SPEED CAMERA TO BE REINSTATED

Lismore City Council will write to the Minister for Roads Duncan Gay and the RTA asking that drivers who get caught speeding by the fixed camera at Clunes receive a fine.

Since August, drivers who speed through the 50 kilometre an hour zone have only been receiving warning notices, after the Auditor-General found the camera wasn’t an effective road safety measure.

Locals disagree, and new figures show double the amount of notices were issued in September compared to the same time last year.

“it is troubling, and we’re taking the lead from the community here. They say they’ve seen an increase in speeding and an increase in more dangerous driving that make their drivers and residents unsafe “
