DRIVER LEADS POLICE ON PURSUIT IN BELMONT SOUTH

A man has been accused of leading police on a pursuit and resisting arrest in Belmont South.
At around 10pm on Saturday, police received reports of a bronze-coloured Rolls Royce being driven dangerously from Catherine Hill Bay towards Belmont.
Police intercepted the vehicle on the Pacific Highway, near the Turea Street intersection.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.
The chase ended a short time later when police were able to surround the vehicle at the Beach Street traffic lights, but not before the driver allegedly attempted to escape by reversing his vehicle into one of the police cars.
He’s then accused of assaulting an officer while being placed under arrest.
The 58-year-old was later charged with a range of offences, including police pursuit (Skye’s Law), resisting police, assaulting police, and refusing to submit to a breath analysis.
