**The State Government has committed to building the $60-million Carrara Showground next year, regardless of the outcome of the Gold Coast’s 2018 Commonwealth Games bid.
Despite the pledge, local LNP candidates fear the Coast will miss out on future investments because of the Government’s $52-billion debt.

**Hundreds of passengers at Gold Coast airport have been disrupted again today, with a volcanic cloud causing more flight cancellations.
Flights between Coolangatta, Adelaide, New Zealand and Hobart are the latest to be affected.

**And a luxury boat moored in a Hope Island canal has been destroyed by fire.
It took fire crews more than a hour to control the blaze, which broke out on the 13-metre vessel last night.
It’s believed the fire was deliberately lit.
