TWO CHARGED AFTER RUTHERFORD ASSAULT

Police used capsicum spray on a 22-year-old man at Rutherford last night after an assault on a teenager.
Earlier in the night, the 22-year-old and a 17-year-old went to a home in Harvey Road Rutherford and attempted to entice two males outside.
They left after the police were called but later tracked the two males to a nearby shopping centre.
It’s alleged a 19-year-old was struck in the head with a fibreglass mattock handle. He sustained facial injuries and is undergoing surgery today.
The 22-year-old is facing three charges including reckless wounding and was due to face Maitland Local Court today.
The 17-year-old was charged with affray and will appear in Maitland Children’s Court on October 9.
