HORSERIDERS BATTLE WITH CATTLE IN THE ALSTONVILLE CAMPDRAFT

Gundurimba’s David Elliot has taken out the feature category at the annual Astonville Campdraft.
More than 300 competitors from Grafton to the Gold Coast showed off their skills in controlling cattle.
And for those unfamiliar with the rules, riders have to ‘cut out’ a beast from the yard, then guide it around a course in a figure eight before steering it home.
“The judges are looking for the good handling of the cattle, and good movement in the yard with cutting the beast out and having your beast under control right through the course”
The competition is definitely challenging – especially when cattle have a mind of their own.
