CALLINAN ELIMINATED AT J-BAY

Merewether’s Ryan Callinan is out of the event – eliminated in round two.

The 24-year-old took the fight to France’s Michel Bourez throughout their heat, before edging ahead with a shaky 5.07 with four minutes to go.

But Bourez sealed it with this wave, in the last two minutes.

“Solid move, releasing that tail a little, floating re-entries, galore, it feels good.”

The early exit is a blow for Callinan’s hopes of re-qualifying for the world tour.
