A 26-year-old male is in Tamworth hospital with a broken jaw and eye socket after an aggravated robbery in Gunnedah last night.
Just before 4am, he and his 44-year-old friend were walking home in Little Connadilly street when a group of 10 to 12 teenagers approached them and asked for cigarettes.
The 44-year-old was handing one over when the group knocked them to the ground, kicking and punching them.
They got away with a mobile phone and a wallet.
