HELENSVALE SERVO HELD UP

An intellectually disabled teenager has held up a Helensvale service station with a toy gun, after escaping from his care home.

Police allege the 17-year-old entered the Caltex store around eight last night, producing the fake firearm and demanding an employee empty the till.

It’s believed he got the toy gun from another resident also in the Department of Child Safety’s care.

He fled with some cash, but later returned to the store, throwing merchandise and damaging equipment.

The teen is facing a number of charges including armed robbery and common assault.
