A 76-year-old man who was found bashed in a train carriage near Newcastle, early Friday morning has died.
The victim suffered severe head injuries and was found alone and unconscious when the Sydney bound train pulled in at Fassifern Railway Station at about 4.30am.
Police have assembled a taskforce to investigate the attack and are seeking any information that may help piece together the events leading up to the incident.
