Four weeks ago councillor Rod McKelvey declared he would run for mayor of Coffs Harbour, now he says he’s quitting local government.
The current deputy mayor has withdrawn from the mayoral race and says he won’t be standing for council due to a change in family circumstances.
He says his wife’s ongoing health problems mean he is unable to devote the necessary time to his duties as a councillor.
Mr McKelvey has served as a councillor for the past four years.
