A competitor at a Yamba surf lifesaving carnival has had a lucky escape after standing on a stingray this morning.
The man in his 30s from Crescent Head was in the surf when the barb pierced his right foot.
He was taken to Maclean hospital but later released.
Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin died tragically more than four years ago when a stingray barb pierced his heart.
