Rewind Series 4 Episode 22 – Surf Lifesaving Nippers
Summer in the 60’s meant beachside fun, surf action and enjoyment, but safety was equally important. Our local Surf Clubs recognised the need to educate kids from a young age.
Community driven Nippers programs were created to build confidence and teach Lifesaving techniques
while promoting physical fitness and personal development.
North Coast Nipper champions – Taree Old Bar, displayed their winning style in 1965. NBN News captured their marching skills by the manning river Central Coast Nippers gathered for their surf carnival at Toowoon Bay.
The March past teams were in top form, Clubs included Copacabana, Shelly beach and Terrigal, with Umina the outright winners.
And at Dixon Park surf Club, the end of season ceremony saw smiling faces and proud parents,
there to recognise the hard work, dedication and development of local young Nippers in 1967
