Woman left with face burns after gas explosion at a Central Coast brewery

A woman has been taken to hospital suffering severe burns to her face following a gas explosion at a brewery on NSW’s Central Coast.

The woman, who is a member of the kitchen staff at Six String Brewing Company in Erina and believed to be aged in her 20s, was injured when an explosion took place about 11.45am today.

Emergency crews were called to the brewery and the woman was taken to hospital via CareFlight helicopter.

Fire and Rescue NSW crew were on site to put out the blaze.

NSW Ambulance said it could not confirm the severity of the woman’s condition but said she had been taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.

Six String Brewing Company said it has closed the taproom following the explosion today.

“This morning an incident occurred in our kitchen when a gas explosion caused severe burns to a member of our kitchen staff,” it said in a statement.

“Thanks to the quick response of our team on-site, emergency services were immediately contacted, and CareFlight was able to transport her swiftly to receive urgent medical care.”

It said staff were “unclear on the severity of the burn”.

“Fire and Rescue are onsite to investigate the cause of the accident and are reinforcing all safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone onsite,” the statement continued.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
