Alleged Hells Angels member charged over coward punch at Newcastle pub
An alleged associate of the Hells Angels bikie gang has been charged after allegedly coward-punching two men in a Newcastle pub.
Two men, aged 19 and 20, were allegedly punched in the head by a man unknown to them at the pub on Morgan Street in Merewether on September 14.
The man then left the scene following the alleged assaults.
Both men received injuries to their mouths and faces and both refused treatment.
Police began investigating following the incident, subsequently leading to a search warrant at a home in Merewether at 6am today.
A number of items were seized, which police alleged were used in the offence, including electronic items.
A 47-year-old man, who police believe is an associate of the Hells Angels, was arrested at the home before being taken to Newcastle Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of assault and affray.
He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court on October 31.
