BIG SURF FORCES LAY DAY
Wild twelve metre surf has forced another lay day, for the Women’s Gidget Pro at Hawaii’s Sunset Beach.
But it didn’t stop some of the world’s bravest surfers, including Coolangatta’s Joel Parkinson from getting out there.
The dangerous conditions took no prisoners, with jet skis and a helicopter crew rescuing battered and bruised surfers and swimmers.
“I would never, ever think about going out there. It’s really crazy that people would go out there and surf those waves.”
Eventually common sense prevailed, with Waimea Bay the place to be… although there was some fierce competition for the big surf there.
The Gidget Pro is part of the Vans Triple Crown Surfing event which continues through to late December.
