A Jetstar A320 Airbus will have a replacement engine installed after an overnight incident at Newcastle.
The Airbus had landed at Newcastle Airport around 6.30pm when ground staff noticed smoke coming from one of its engines.
Passengers were evacuated from the aircraft as a precaution and a scheduled flight on to Brisbane was cancelled.
The fire in the engine is thought to have been caused by excess fuel igniting in part of the engine housing.
Alternate arrangements have been made for passengers and normal schedules have resumed.
