MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR FORMER MINISTER VIRGINIA CHADWICK
Former state minister Virginia Chadwick, has been farewelled at a memorial service at Christ Church Cathedral.
Colleagues, family and friends gathered to mourn and pay tribute to the former school teacher and well-respected politician, who’s been hailed as a trailblazer for female MPs.
Upper Hunter MP George Souris today said, “She pioneered a number of roles especially for women but more than that, she was a very important senior member of the Greiner and Fahey governments.”
Born in Newcastle, Virginia Chadwick was not only the first female president of the Legislative Council, but the first female Liberal minister.
She died from cancer, aged 64.
