Manning Great Lakes police kick off Christmas RBTs on 40th anniversary

You’ll never know when or where you’ll be pulled over-

Tomorrow marks 40 years since random breath testing was rolled out across New South Wales.

But police won’t be sitting back celebrating – instead they’re marking the milestone with a blitz, deploying hundreds of patrol cars from the Hunter to Tweed Heads.

Setting up in Tuncurry today as part of Operation Fume, Manning Great Lakes police are using the occasion to promote driver safety over the Christmas period.

“RBT has been seen to reduce alcohol related fatalities by 50 per cent and its estimated it’s saved over 9000 live son NSW roads,” Det Inspect Tim Bayly said.

Drink driving now contributes to about 15 per cent of deaths on the State’s roads each year.
