DISQUALIFIED DRIVER AND WOMAN CHARGED OVER HUNTER POLICE PURSUIT

Two people have been charged over a pursuit through the Hunter region yesterday.

Just before 9am on November 1, officers were patrolling the New England Highway at Ravensworth, when they noticed an unregistered Ford Fiesta travelling north.

Police tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly failed to stop, starting a pursuit north along the highway.

The pursuit continued into Muswellbrook until the Ford stopped on William Street, and the driver, a 29-year-old man, exited the vehicle and was arrested by police.

The front passenger of the vehicle, an 18-year-old woman, also left the vehicle and approached police.

A police officer tried to arrest the woman when she allegedly assaulted them.

The man’s driver’s licence was suspended until 2024.

Police searched the vehicle and allegedly seized two bags of cannabis.

The pair was taken to Muswellbrook Police Station and the man was breath tested, and allegedly returned a reading of 0.035.

The man was charged with several offences, including police pursuit, special range PCA, driving while disqualified and contravening an AVO.

He was refused bail and appeared at Muswellbrook Local Court on November 1.

The woman was also charged with several offences, including two counts of possessing a prohibited drug, assaulting police, resisting arrest.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Muswellbrook Local Court December 20.
