PREGNANT WOMAN IN ICU AT JOHN HUNTER HOSPITAL
New South Wales Health has confirmed reports a pregnant woman is being treated for Covid-19 at John Hunter Hospital.
The woman is being cared for in the intensive care unit but is not currently ventilated.
“Obviously sad to hear about that particular case of that pregnant lady in ICU,” Deputy CMO Dr Marianna Gale said during Wednesday’s press conference.
NBN News understands she tried to get a vaccine but was unable to find a provider.
Since July pregnant women have been eligible to receive Pfizer.
“Clearly we understand that some people who are pregnant may have struggled to get access to Pfizer vaccine,” Dr Gale said.
“For any pregnant women out there who are seeking to get access I do encourage you to talk to your GP or talk to your obstetrician for assistance in accessing Pfizer.”
She is one of 10 people, from the Hunter New England, currently in hospital with COVID-19.
There are now 77 active cases in the health district.
