MILLIONS OF OYSTERS GROW AFTER PORT STEPHENS REEF RESTORATION
There’s been an increase in fish numbers at Port Stephens, following oyster reef restoration work in the Karuah River.
The Department of Primary Industries says recent monitoring has revealed substantial improvements to the ecosystem.
Recreational and commercial fishermen should see the benefits by next year.
“The 50-million or so oysters from Stage 1 that we did in 2020, they’ve all survived the floods just fine, and are continuing to grow, they’re more than half-grown now.” – Kylie Russell, NSW DPI Manager.
Millions more are expected to grow in the coming months.
