URALLA PIE SHOP STAFF CHARGED FOR NOT WEARING MASKS
Three staff members from a Uralla pie shop have been arrested and charged for allegedly failing to wear a mask.
On Friday, officers attached to New England Police District attended The Pie Mechanic on Bridge Street, as part of Public Health Order compliance checks.
They found four people working without a mask; three had been spoken to by police on two occasions earlier in the week, and were issued with Penalty Infringement Notices.
Two men aged, 38 and 21, and a woman, aged 23, were arrested and taken to Armidale Police Station where they were charged with not wearing fitted face covering in retail/business premises.
All three were granted strict conditional bail to appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday July 26.
A fourth man was also issued a penalty infringement notice for not wearing a mask.
Shortly after, The Pie Mechanic took to Facebook to thank the community for their ongoing support.
It then went on to say, “the NSW compliance gang escalated their oppression and forced our closure”.
“We were asked to explain our exemptions, despite the state government rules clearly stating that it is not a requirement for compliance.”
The bakery is shut for the weekend as the business owners “pursue their legal options”.
