Lismore race car driver Nathan Herne has been taken to hospital after crashing in his open-wheeler at Phillip Island this afternoon.
The 18-year-old was competing in the S5000 series when he closed-in on pole-sitter Thomas Randle.
“Got a good start and the bloke in front of me decided not to let me pass,” Herne said in a video posted to his Facebook page.
His hospitalisation, just a precaution.
Earlier, Herne claimed a round win in the Trans Am series.
He placed second in race three – but his podium finishes in earlier races were enough to get him over the line.
