SUCCESSFUL FATHER AND DAUGHTER SPORTS PROGRAM COMES TO POINT WOLSTONCROFT
Dads on the sideline of a soccer field or coaching young football teams are common sights.
But for the first time, young girls and their fathers will be able to participate in an extra-curricular sports program together.
The ‘Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered Program’ is being run at the Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Recreation Centre from February 8.
With a significant gap between men and women in sport, the program is designed to give young females the confidence to play sport.
The program teaches fathers to be the agent of change to improve their daughter’s sports skills and physical wellbeing and has had great success in the past.
Acting Minister for Sport, Geoff Lee, has encouraged local fathers and daughters to register.
“Through educational and practical sessions, this fantastic program targets fathers as the agents of change by participating in fun activities that help improve their daughter’s sport skills, confidence, self-esteem and resilience,” Mr Lee said.
The 8 week program run is run free of charge by the University of Newcastle in partnership with the NSW Government.
