CONTROVERSIAL WEST BYRON DEVELOPMENT RECEIVES THE GREEN LIGHT

Stage one of the controversial West Byron development on Ewingsdale Road has been given the green light in the Land and Environment Court.

In a partial victory for the Byron Residents’ Group, developers ‘NSPT Pty Ltd’ has agreed to nearly half the number of residential lots from 282 to 149.

“We’re still waiting for the second half of this and the other land owners are in court as well. We’re hoping again that the other land owners could think of doing something that had less of a devastating impact,” Byron Shire Councillor Cate Coorey said.

The Residents’ Group remains concerned about traffic issues and the environmental impacts on Belongil Creek and the Cape Byron Marine Park.

“Over 20 years ago, many started the push against developing this site,” Mayor Richardson said.

“My opposition began 13 years ago, standing in protest on Ewingsdale Road alongside Cr Tabart and Greens MLC, the late John Kaye.

“So, tonight I’ll be sad, but tomorrow, the hard work to get best outcome possible on the site begins,” Mayor Richardson said.

“NSPT Pty Ltd now owns all shares in Villa World Byron Pty Ltd and, as such, has full ownership rights and control in the application made in the name of Villa World Byron Pty Ltd…Villa World will have no involvement in the LEC Proceedings as it is no longer a shareholder of the company that is behind the application,” AVID Property Group CEO, Cameron Holt, said.
