A controversial expansion of a rock quarry at Port Stephens has been given the green-light.
The Brandy Hill quarry will be able to almost double its annual output, despite residents’ concerns about noise, dust and the loss of more than 50 hectares of koala habitat.
Hanson was seeking approval for a 24/7 operation, but it’s been permitted to operate six days a week.
The company must pay for an upgrade to Brandy Hill Drive, and no trucks can enter the site before 6am.
