A man is recovering in hospital following a coward punch attack at the Hotel Delany last night.

The 31-year-old was with his friends on Darby Street at around 7 o’clock last night, when he was approached by a group of unknown men.

Police were told the man was knocked unconscious after being slapped and punched in the face by one of the men.

Security intervened when a fight broke out between the two groups, and an ambulance was called for the 31-year-old.

The injured man was treated by paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Police would like to speak to two men who may be able to assist with investigation inquiries.

They are both described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 25-35 years old, both with a muscular build, average height and neck tattoos.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Newcastle Police.
