Tamworth’s historic Paradise Pump Station will soon serve an entirely different purpose.
Built in 1915, it was one of Tamworth’s first community water supplies.
It’s now gone unused for a number of years.
Tamworth Regional Council voted 18 months ago to turn the heritage site into a park.
Stage one of the $480,000 project will get underway next week, with the removal of nearby peppercorn trees.
“There’s nine trees in total. Seven of them have to be removed to allow for the construction to occur and we were trying to maintain two trees, which are the largest two trees down here, and they were found to be structurally unsafe. Obviously, as we turn it into a park, we want the trees to be safe.”
Once complete, the park will boast a modern shelter, with seating and ramp access.
