A man will appear in court today after allegedly biting a police officer near Maitland.
Officers were patrolling Tenambit yesterday afternoon when they allegedly spotted a man acting suspiciously and holding something in the front of his jumper.
When the 38-year-old was asked to show officers what he was holding, it’s allegedly he produced a small plastic bag which he proceeded to eat before attempting to flee.
Police say the man then became violent and bit a Senior Constable on his arm.
The officer required treatment at Maitland Hospital.
The alleged offender was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with a number of offences including resist arrest and assault police.
He’ll front Newcastle Local Court later today.
