$8.2 MILLION FLOOD PLAN FOR LISMORE
We may be in the midst of a drought but Lismore council is working on heading off a potential disaster of a different kind.
Following severe flooding in March 2017, the council is getting on the front foot to safeguard essential infrastructure.
Work is underway at a site near the Lismore Airport… on an 8.2 Million dollar flood mitigation project.
The excavation of 410,000 cubic metres of earth, aims to divert floodwater overflow from the Leycester Creek.
“What we know this will do is take floods out of the CBD, and any CBD flood, any flood that gets near our CBD is gonna be disastrous so any flood we keep out is a good thing.”
Work is expected to be completed by October 2020.
