FAILFORD ROAD FIRE – Advice

Waterbombing aircraft are working to support crews on the ground at Darawank near Forster, where an ‘Advice’ level warning is in place.

The blaze is burning in the vicinity of Failford Rd and The Lakes Way.

Residents in Darawank, Hallidays Point, Corrigan, Tallwoods Village, Black Head, Red Head and Diamond Beach should be aware of burning embers.

Firefighters say the blaze will continue burning for at least the next couple of days.

Failford Road and The Lakes Way have been reopened.

This bus was destroyed in the blaze, which has so far scorched more than 2,000 hectares.

RILEY CREEK TRAIL – Advice

Further west and a fire burning at Mount George, west of Taree is now listed at ‘Advice’.

More than 200 hectares has already been scorched by the fire, which has been burning for more than a week in the area of Knorrit Flat.

It broke containment lines on Saturday and was upgraded to an Emergency warning at around lunchtime.

It’s since been downgraded.

If you are between the area of Knorrit Flat and Mount George and you and your property are not prepared you should leave now towards Wingham if the path is clear.

MINIMBAR FIRE – Advice

Firefighters also spent much of Saturday afternoon working to protect properties on South Street at Tuncurry, where a third emergency warning was issued for a fire burning near the Coolongolook River.

Local residents should take shelter as the fire front approaches, while those in Tuncurry and Forster should be aware of falling embers.

 

An Evacuation Centre is being opened at the Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club at 21 Parkes Street.

The fire is now at ‘Advice’ level.
