NEWCASTLE CYCLISTS SPEAK OUT AGAINST BAN
Cyclists have denounced a state government ban on riding along part of Newcastle’s light rail route, which came into effect this morning.
Signs have gone up, advising riders NOT to venture down a 340-metre mixed running section in Scott Street.
It comes after a safety review prompted by the tragic death of a cyclist in July.
The study also took into consideration other accidents, where riders reported getting their wheels stuck in the tracks.
Cycling advocate Bernard Hockings says, “We think the response from the state government has been lazy and I have to say incompetent.”
