A couple are under police guard in hospital, following a single vehicle crash at Wallsend around 7:30am.
Police were looking for a car believed to be linked to several Newcastle break-ins, when a member of the public called about a crash near Cowper Street with a description matching the suspicious vehicle.
The 18-year-old passenger was arrested, and after complaining of feeling unwell he was taken to John Hunter Hospital.
The 28-year-old driver is also recovering at John Hunter Hospital from non-life threatening injuries.
Cowper Street, between Lake Road and Kokera Street, was closed for about 2 hours before the road was cleared.
