A 69-year-old man has died after his car hit a tree near Byron Bay this morning.
Just before 3:15am emergency services were called to Hinterland Way, about 10km west of Byron Bay, following reports a Volkswagon Golf left the road and hit a tree.
The driver was found to be unresponsive by passing motorists.
He died at the scene.
Police from the Tweed/Byron Police District are looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash, anyone with information is urged to come forward.
