HEALTH WARNING FOLLOWING MEASLES CASE AT JOHN HUNTER HOSPITAL
NSW Health have issued a measles warning, after a teenager who had recently returned from Myanmar developed the infection.
The teenager became infectious on January 3 while in Brisbane, before travelling to Newcastle by car.
He arrived in Newcastle on January 5, having stopped at the Woodburn riverside precinct earlier that day.
He also spent time in the waiting room at Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital on the afternoon/evening of January 6.
Symptoms of the highly contagious infection can include fever, sore eyes and a cough, followed three or four days later by a red, blotchy rash.
Anyone with these symptoms should contact their GP.
