TRAGIC DROWNINGS AT MOONEE BEACH, MAN STILL MISSING

Two men are dead, and a third is missing, after six members of the same family were swept into the ocean late Monday, north of Coffs Harbour.

The tragic incident at Moonee Beach sparked a massive search and rescue operation that went well into the night, and resumed early Tuesday morning.

EARLIER:

Two men have drowned, while a third remains missing at Moonee Beach near Coffs Harbour.

It’s understood a group of six people got into trouble in the surf just after 6 o’clock on Monday evening, with two men pulled from the water.

The pair, aged 35 and 45 couldn’t be revived.

A 28-year-old man remains missing, with an extensive search set to resume at first light.

Three others, two aged 15 and another 17, have been taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for observation.

The group is believed to be from Sydney.
