Mandated nursing ratios in regional hospitals was being spruiked by Labor today in Singleton.
The state’s opposition leader is proposing a one-nurse to three patient ratio in emergency and pediatric wards in all state hospitals.
With a one to four ratio in surgical and medical wards.
Luke Foley claims it’s an affordable and attainable goal if Labor is to be elected next year.
“It’s certainly affordable, there’s no doubt there will need to be a plan in place to educate the next generation of nurses and midwives but with good will and government investment that certainly can be done,” said Mr. Foley.
The changes would affect close to 60 hospitals.
