APPLICATION FOR GLOUCESTER MINE DENIED
The NSW Planning and Assessment Commission has denied an application by Gloucester Resources Limited for an open-cut coal mine in the region.
Concerns from the community is cited as one of the reasons for the refusal of the Rocky Hill Coal Project.
The Commission found that the creation and operation of an open-cut coal mine at the proposed location would negatively impact the scenic amenity of the Gloucester area, and create significant visual impacts throughout all stages of the project.
Despite the potential for positive economic and social impacts, the quality of life for residents near the site would also be negatively impacted from the potential risks from an increase in noise, and air quality concerns.
