20-YEAR-OLD TO FACE COURT AFTER ROAD FATALITY

The 20-year-old driver of a vehicle that crashed into a tree, killing a 17-year-old male passenger, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death.

The crash occurred at around 2:30am on Saturday, on Cedar Party Road at Cedar Party, between Taree and Wingham on the mid north coast.

An 18-year-old man, who was also a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to Manning Base Hospital with minor injuries.

The male driver underwent mandatory blood and urine testing, and was later charged with dangerous driving cause death, negligent driving cause death, and driving while disqualified.

A critical incident team will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
